Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog.
Name: Maria Robotnik.
Age: 12.
Physical Description of Character: Maria is a 12 year old girl. She has medium length blonde hair and blue eyes. Her typical outfit is a dark blue shirt and light blue skirt, with dark blue flats. She wears a blue headband (she seems to enjoy the color blue...). Her height is 4 feet, seven and a half inches tall; her weight is 70 pounds. Maria also happens to look a lot like Alice, from Through the Looking Glass and Alice In Wonderland fame.
Point in Canon: After the raid by G.U.N., but before she is fatally wounded by a G.U.N. soldier's bullet.
Personality: An eternal optimist, Maria is determined to see the good in every person she meets. She finds it easier than most people to forgive and forget, and can also forge bonds of trust quickly. This may be partly due to the fact that everyone she knows she has most likely grown up with, and will immediately trust anyone who returns the same kindness she has showed him or her. She is naturally curious, as she as lived aboard a research facility for the majority of her life. However, she will also do her best to stay out of trouble if she can. Her belief is that science projects, as well as research, should only provide goodness for mankind. Vowing to protect the Earth, she feels quite sorry for injured people as well as dead G.U.N. soldiers, and is determined to help as many people as she can. Due to her age, as well as the circumstances of her life, she is also quite naive about things that most normal twelve year olds share common knowledge of, as well as things that go on with the inhabitants of Earth. Having lived aboard the ARK Space Colony for most of her life, she has yet to experience 'normal' things like weather (snow, extreme heat, etc.) and activities (shopping, playing outside). Her family, consisting of her grandfather (Professor Gerald Robotnik) and Shadow are the most important people to her.
History of the Character: Maria lived 50 years ago from the current Sonic the Hedgehog timeline. She lived aboard the Space Colony ARK, the first Bernal sphere space colony. She was sent there by her parents (who remained on Earth) at a very young age, and lived with her grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik As a consequence of living in space for most of her young life, she doesn't remember anything about her life on Earth. Cursed at a very young age with Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome (NIDS- a disease very closely related to AIDS), she was sent aboard the ARK for two reasons. The first was the hope that space and the lessened gravity there would help with the effects of her incurable disease (which includes fatigue, difficulty walking, and other worrisome symptoms which could turn into her being confined to a wheelchair, blindness, etc. if left untreated). The second was that she could help with her grandfather's research. Gerald Robotnik had been given the task by the government of discovering immortality, and this task became personal when Maria arrived. From then on, his research about immortality was focused on keeping her alive and finding a cure for her disease. As the ARK was the most advanced scientific research facility at the time, he was able to keep an eye on her condition and take numerous blood and tissue samples which would help in his work for the government. Embarking on numerous projects to help him achieve this goal, the Professor would eventually take part in one codenamed Project Shadow; this project eventually yielded the Ultimate Life Form- most notably Shadow the Hedgehog.
Shadow and Maria became close friends (despite the fact that she had others aboard; namely the future commander of the Guardian Units of Nations, abbreviated G.U.N.) and would spend hours looking at the Earth and talking about what it would be like to live there.
In an unfortunate turn of events, G.U.N. raided the ARK and destroyed all of the research the professor had been conducting, and eliminated almost all of the people living there. This included the extermination of all of the prototypes and lifeforms the research had yielded, including the ones from Project Shadow. Shadow and Maria tried to escape together, but they were eventually cornered by G.U.N. soldiers. Seeing that they were about to kill her best friend, Maria became determined to protect him at all costs. She managed to get Shadow into an escape pod and told him to bring happiness to the people of the world for her, she then ejected his pod before the soldiers caught up to them. Turning around to face their attackers and protect her best friend from death, Maria braced herself as the soldiers prepared to fire. However, she suddenly found herself in a strange environment; one she'd never been in before: Salkia Island.
